Michael Zhang is a Director of Cowen and Company Asia and Head of our Shanghai office. Mr. Zhang leads the Firm's Alternative Energy practice. He is also responsible for all aspect of deal execution as well as new business origination.

Mr. Zhang has extensive corporate finance and capital markets experience. Prior to joining us, he was a Principal investment banker at ThinkEquity Partners and co-head of the firm's China office. In his role, he originated, participated, and executed multiple transactions in the consumer, education, semiconductor, and media industries. From May 2005 to November 2006, he led ThinkEquity's China equity research in San Francisco as a Principal, senior analyst covering Chinese technology stocks that are listed in the United States. Formerly, Michael was an associate and junior research analyst at Stephens Inc., covering emerging power technology and defense IT & homeland security companies. Prior to joining Stephens, he worked for one of the top 50 capitalized companies in China for four years in both management and investment fields, while running his own information technology venture for two years.

He holds a BE with high honors in Economics from Renmin University of China in Beijing and earn an MBA in Finance from Wake Forest University Babcock Graduate School of Management as a Charles H. Babcock Scholar. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the United States.
